The BIG ADVENTURE

As part of my Jubilee celebrations towards the big Five Oh I decided on a solo trip of a lifetime, exploring Botswana, then on to see the Victoria Falls, heading south through Namibia, back to South Africa. The budget was less than shoestring and inexpensive Baked Beans appeared on my menu.

The older posts are about my preparations and the newer ones are from my adventure to date.

1st draft itinerary

Here's a picture of the 1st draft broad itinerary of my adventure
(you can click on the pic to see a bigger version)

I've made Sandton City Shopping Centre (in Johannesburg) as the start and end point. At the moment this trip is going to be 7,237 kms. It's made up of places I've read about and that I'd like to visit and I'm trying to find affordable camping sites in the areas. Any suggestions, ideas, comments are more than welcome.

I've plotted the points on the Mapsource software for 'Judy Garmin' (my GPS device) and it has a facility to see it in Google Earth and then I can make a jpeg file out of it and bring you this picture of the route. Very clever I think!!

I'm working on the daily itinerary and costs and now I'm terrified - where am I going to find the funds to do this trip like I want to?!?!?!

I'm eating this elephant one bite at a time.

how did you do that?? it just proves i am a complete tech dumdum.

i forwarded your mail to chuck, he studied it for a while, reading out loud the spots he'd been or we'd been, and sighing, (more like groaning) what a trip this is going to be.

i'm still thinking on creative ways for you to fund it...

have you ever bought a lottery ticket? (i haven't) but someones got to win.

Lori I DO buy the occasional Lotto ticket - their payoff line "if you aren't in it, you can't win it"

nothing so far
