Strewn on my lounge floor are some maps I’ve collected; Namibia Roads Authority Map 2008/2009, Mapstudio’s Namibia Road Atlas and AA Motoring in Namibia. All of them have snippets of tourist information on the country including places of interest, distances between cities and towns, people of Namibia, etc.
I’m reading numerous websites on visiting Namibia and am spending a lot of time reading people’s trip reports. A very useful, informative site is the 4x4 Community forum. Most of the posts and opinions are from males (some with big ego's!) I have found the occasional report or comment from other women. I’m beginning to realise how male-dominated this world of 4x4 travelling is! What are women doing? Just planning menus, buying groceries and doing the usual cooking, washing, ironing – trading the kitchen at the home for the kitchen at the campsite? I wonder. . .
Being a twitcher, I refer my favourite birding website SA Birding for advice on birding hotspots in Namibia and these will form the basis of my trip. My target is 50 ‘lifers’ over the year and I plan to get as close as possible to this on my BIG ADVENTURE.
To this foundation, I’m adding all the places of interest which sound interesting me or sound like an absolute “Must-See”. I’m going to start marking all of these on Mapsource, the software for my Garmin (a.k.a Judy). I'm also going to be including Tsumeb on my itinerary as I spent a year growing up there in my very very young days and I want to visit and see if I can recognise anything.
So far, so good . . .

Hey Val, I didn't end up doing it on that trip. We did have omlettes cooked in freezer bags in boiling water though - which was a great success.
I love the idea of pasta-in-a-flask (while you're game driving). Definitely added to my 'trip menu'
Lori, glad comments sorted now.
