The BIG ADVENTURE

As part of my Jubilee celebrations towards the big Five Oh I decided on a solo trip of a lifetime, exploring Botswana, then on to see the Victoria Falls, heading south through Namibia, back to South Africa. The budget was less than shoestring and inexpensive Baked Beans appeared on my menu.

The older posts are about my preparations and the newer ones are from my adventure to date.

So I Begin ...

Some of my friends, the other Hyenas, have already reached the 50-years-old milestone and were recently complaining, again, that I just don't seem to be getting there soon enough. Well, it happens in 2011 - which is still way too long for their liking. I'm not sure what the issue is as age is just another number, is it not?! Some of my friends have embraced this number with gracious acceptance, some have tried to hide behind smaller numbers, and for others 50 is the number that follows 49.
After going to some of their 50th celebrations, listening to their remarks and thinking about milestones, I've decided to make my 50th year one of my most memorable, so far. This involves some planning and preparation if I want to do it my way. Life and the Universe does have a way of changing my plans so I'll have to work closely with L&tU.
Enthused from a recent trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, I'm including a 50-day BIG ADVENTURE in my year. This blog is about the plotting, planning, preparation, pain, pleasure and passion I'll be putting into it all.
F Y I: I'm currently involved in the 2010 FIFA World Cup here in South Africa and my contract finishes on 31 July, my 49th birthday, so I'll probably begin my 50th year unemployed which will be an influencing factor in my plans and preparations for the BIG ADVENTURE.

I just got chills reading this. Now THIS is the way to celebrate. I am cheering for you Janet, I know you'll make it all happen and i'll be looking forward to it all. (wishing I could come along!)
When we are on a tight budget here we say it's back to "happy noodles" these inexpensive little packages of dried ramen.

Maybe we meet up somewhere along the way??

I know those noodles well - we call them '2-minute noodles' here. They're on my budgetshopping list

:o)

Hey, those were Chuck's words exactly. Wouldn't that be something?

I forgot to say I love the colors here, they are really beautiful and soothing. The khaki, green and blue, nice.

I am wiping my eyes as I read this Janet. A big love wave is soaring across the Italian peninsula, the Mediterranean, the Sahara and reaching you with all my happiness for this wonderful endeavor. What a fantastic birthday present!

I think you should extend the BIG adventure and make a Central European stop here. I will take care of you, pamper you and share more baked beans on toast!

Smiling now,
Lola xx
