THE KILLING FIELDS
I have heard of the culling of countless seals by horrific methods like clubbing (obviously not to be confused with late-night happenings in the big cities and townships!), but the reality was brought home to me by an email one of my friends sent to me and when I see attitudes from people like this man on YouTube, my blood boils and I side with the fanatical bunny-huggers: (don't worry there are no sensitive scenes in this video, rather insensitive scenes)
This is a man who is, according to the Namibian Government, the sole purchaser of seal skins. He has a 5-year exclusivity agreement with the government to harvest the skins. He thinks it is funny to kill baby seals. This is a man who tried to con good, compassionate people out of millions, only to deny it (despite hard evidence to the contrary).
One of the visits I've really been looking forward to is that to the seal colony at Cape Cross on the Skeleton Coast. Now I realise I'm actually going to be visiting Killing Fields. Not so sure I feel like going there anymore.
Yes, this post is a bit knee-jerk and I need to do more research, but my initial reaction is "don't go to Cape Cross".
